Holbeach Marsh Co-operative (HMC) is a co-operative of around 30 member growers who produce vining peas for freezing. During recent years HMC have secured contracts ranging from 10 to 20,000 tonnes of peas. These crops have been grown on an area surrounding The Wash - from Boston and Spalding in the west of our area, down to Wisbech and Chatteris in the south and up through King’s Lynn, to North West Norfolk.
Our core growers in the Holbeach Marsh area farm on light to medium marine silt soils through to more bodied heavy silts. In the south of the area we border fen skirt and fen peat soils. The area in North West Norfolk is predominantly light loamy sand soils over chalk.
