OUR BRAND VALUES*
OUR COMMITMENTS*
Sustainability
Our sheep & Hereford cattle graze permanent pasture land that could not be used for growing crops, well-managed grazing systems can sequester enough carbon to entirely compensate for the GHGs these systems release. Our “Glamrock” pigs are housed in straw yards & outside in tents. Hay & silage is made on the farm to feed stock over the winter reducing transport costs & emissions. Straw from the arable crops is used for bedding. Manure is put back onto the arable land to reduce the need for artificial fertilisers & we are trialling a "no-till" approach to improve soil quality.
Environment
We are helping to reduce food miles by selling meat direct to the customer from our small Farm Shop.
Local Communities
Our shop offer locals a chance to buy our meat as well as just popping in for a chat... We are open on a Friday and Saturday and have a great coffee machine too!
Packaging & Waste
We use compostable trays for packing meat in the farm shop where possible and stock cleaning product re-fills, locally made beeswax food wraps and goat milk soap and shampoo bars.
Inspiring & Educating
We are members of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and have been involved with Open Farm Sunday since it started. We also run school visits and take work experience students form local schools and colleges.
Energy Reduction
We are always looking to ways to reduce our energy consumption and a few years ago we installed a biomass boiler to heat the farmhouse and provide hot water for the B&B. This runs on straw and waste wood from the farm and our kerosene usage has been reduced by about 90%.

Animal Welfare
At Old Farm the animals always come first. The pigs are kept on straw and sows make great nests when it's time to farrow. The cattle are housed in straw yards for the winter and from April - October they have their own permanent ridge and furrow field complete with mature oaks for shade and shelter. The sheep live outside all year round with the exception of lambing time when they are housed overnight so we can keep an eye on them.
