OUR BRAND VALUES*
Our primary ingredient travels only metres from the milking parlour to our factory, keeping our food miles low. We farm our land in a sustainable way, growing 95% of the food our cows eat on the premises and rotating crops to ensure fertility of soil. We generate green energy on the farm with solar panels creating up to 150kw of solar energy, accounting for approximately 20% of all our electricity requirements. We also use a Wood Pellet Boiler on the farm which makes our entire site 100% carbon neutral.
While our story has grown over the last 30 years we are proud that our dairy farming heritage remains strong. This means land management and animal welfare are at the heart of our business. Organic farming has a proven lower environmental impact compared to conventional farming as there are no oil-based sprays and fertilisers in use. On average, plant, insect and bird life is 50% more abundant on organic farms; our farm is a haven for wildlife and we provide homes for bees, birds and other nesting wildlife.
We work with local charity Jamie's Farm to support young children who are excluded from society. We host fundraising events at our farm parlour and our school tours held in summer are a further source of charity revenue for Jamie’s Farm. We’re proud to support local events with sponsorship packages including Marshfield Cricket Club and Bath Film Festival in recent months.
Packaging & Waste
All our packaging is 100% recyclable. On the farm, all our cardboard and plastic is baled and sent onto recycling centres – avoiding excess waste in landfill.
Inspiring & Educating
Our school tours are an opportunity to teach children about the importance of organic farming, a transparent food chain and supporting local businesses.
To aid in reducing our energy output, we installed a Heat Exchange Unit in our factory. This energy transfer unit means we can recycle lost energy during pasteurisation. We also use inverters in the milking parlour which reduces electric consumption by up to 80% and in 2018 we converted all our light fixtures to timed units that use LED bulbs.
Free from artificial colour and flavours. On average, every scoop of ice cream is made with up to 50% fresh farm milk.
Under organic farming standards, our cows are raised without the routine use of antibiotics and wormers. Our herdsmen milks the cows twice a day, seven days a week; at every milking our cows receive a routine health check and have their udders cleaned. Our cows graze on over 1,100 acres of organic land for up to 9 months in the year. The farmers keep the cows out on the fields for as long as possible, when they are brought into the barns they eat organic silage and each cow has a mattress made of rubber and a layer of straw to protect their joints and muscles.
