OUR COMMITMENTS*
Sustainability
Our vision is to become the country's leading sustainable brewery. Sustainability has become an increasingly important part of what we do atHobsons and we continue to strive to reduce our effect on the environment by embracing sustainable technologies and harnessing the environmental assets where we live. Every decision made has sustainability at the core; additional micro generation technologies, production efficiencies, waste utilisation and ingredient local sourcing.
Environment
Hobsons Brewery is one of the largest breweries in Shropshire and leads the field in sustainable technologies, innovating new ideas, community involvement and environmental awareness. 2017 saw the development ofan integrated cask washing and filling system within an automated hygienic environment. In 2021 we are working on a new initiative to benefit even further from this system.
Local Communities
From the early days we have been supporting publicans, village fetes, local fund-raisers and sports teams. Activities include helping a local club buy a new rowing boat, fuelled a group of inland sea shanty singers, created charity beers for the Royal British Legion and British Hedgehog Preservation Society and championed a vibrant mix of events and festivals.
Packaging & Waste
Working together with Mercian Labels in Staffordshire, we adopted a sustainable, renewable, self-adhesive paper label ‘Forest Film’ in 2019. To produce Forest Film natural oils are extracted from wood pulp as a waste by-product from the paper making process. In 2019 we also made the switch to wooden manufactured pump clips which are printed using water-based inks by a nearby company in Worcestershire. We do not use plastic packaging in every possible instance and re-use cardboard packaging inhouse to assist us with packing orders; reducing waste and the quantity of packaging we need.
Inspiring & Educating
Hobsons Brewery Taproom is more than just a taproom! It is also a great space to deliver training courses, we regularly organise Personal Licence Courses and Beer School (cellar training) courses.
Energy Reduction
In December 2014 we installed Photovoltaic Panels with individual inverters to harvest the most energy, incorporated with our Wind turbine we now produce circa 40% of all our electricity power. In 2013 we constructed a 100m² Visitor Centre (now Hobsons Brewery Taproom) fromlocal stone with a high thermally efficient roof and windows, all heating is sourced from waste hot water and fed via the underfloor heating loops.
