Best of Our Counties aims to source the tastiest food and drink from the counties we trade in. Whether that is through tenant farms, local suppliers or small food producers, we want to keep our supply chain as local as possible. Where we have Butchers, they only sell meat sourced direct from a local farm and ensure the finest, high quality cuts are available for our customers to enjoy with minimal impact to the environment. Our Delicatessens stock cheeses, freshly prepared pies, pastries, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, handmade ready meals, tarts & handmade pâtés all made by Best of Our Counties local suppliers. Our philosophy is simple: fresh, local, seasonal. We aim to source from the home or neighbouring county of each store. Inevitably it is sometimes necessary to go a little further to source food when demand is high & local sources cannot supply us, but we always aim to work with small, quality local producers. This not only reduces food miles but also means our customers know exactly where their food comes from, with peace of mind that it is of the highest quality and has been sustainably sourced. In store you will see our local ranges which are highlighted with “The Best of our Counties” branding.

We’re proud to be accredited as a sustainable business by Business in Community – part of the Prince’s Responsible Business Network. We want to build a better environment for all.

We want to bring about positive change for our planet. With a focus on energy saving and recycling, our environmental projects have completely transformed how we do business. We’re proud to be able to say that in the last few years we’ve: Increased recycling levels to 99% Reduced the total amount of waste we produce by over 30% Reduced energy usage by over 15% saving 7,000 tonnes of CO2

Local Communities

Supporting local communities is one of the guiding principles for our business and because we’re owned by our members, they decide who needs our help most. Each year we donate a share of our profits to local organisations. We’re also involved in volunteering, fundraising and a whole host of community projects. We’re passionate about making a difference to local people. Our work has been recognised by a number of national bodies and we’re proud to have received many awards. Packaging & Waste

As you can imagine, producing numerous brochures creates waste. As part of The Midcounties Co-operative’s commitment to the environment we endeavour to recycle all our brochures and, wherever possible, send e-brochures to our customers to help reduce waste even further.
