Since 2006 our family have been making award-winning Cider with 100% juice from Real fruit. Being sugar and gluten free it’s also suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans. Tutts Clump Cider is a family business that was set up in 2006 by Tim Wale. Tim (who is an Agricultural/Motor Engineer by trade) was born in the hamlet of Tutts Clump in West Berkshire and still lives there. Tim is assisted by his wife and five daughters. Cider making started as a hobby with production of some 25 litres. By 2013 we were using around 90 tonnes of home counties grown apples and crafting some 60,000 litres of Proper Cider. The large commercial mass produced Ciders on our supermarket shelves can typically contain 70% water! They are made in factories all through the year from a concentrate rather than fresh fruit. CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) has a list of Cider they do not class as ‘real’ on their website http://www.camra.org.uk/cider-not-recognised-as-being-real The most common reasons they do not consider Cider or Perry to be REAL (even if made from 100% juice) is that its filtered pasteurised carbonated or concentrate juice has been used. Tutts Clump Cider will never appear on this list! Our cider making process is also sustainable. Part of our process will always include collecting unwanted apples locally, with any waste or unsuitable fruit and pomace given to local farmers to feed their pigs.
